September 19, 2006 Regular Meeting

BROOKS AND DISTRICT FISH AND GAME ASSOCIATION

Call to Order – 7:30 pm (Rod Rosland)

1.0 Approval of the Minutes
MOTION – Moved by Rick Martin to adopt the minutes from the April 18, 2006 Regular meeting as presented, seconded by Greg Feth. CARRIED.
2.0 Business Arising From the Minutes

3.0 New Business
3.1 "Use Respect" sign inventory and replacement schedule
– a list of sign locations and condition has been completed
MOTION – Rod Svenson moved that the club commit to replace at least the top five signs on the priority list by spring 2007, and that we approach the Eastern Irrigation District and other sponsors to assist in funding the project, seconded by Greg Feth. CARRIED.
– Rod Svenson will obtain cost quotes on the signs and prepare a written proposal for the executive to present to the EID.
– Rod Svenson will prepare letters to send to other Fish & Game Associations to see if they are interested in assisting (some clubs provided sponsorships for the old signs).
– Lester Janke will approach other potential sponsors.
3.2 Call for Conference volunteers – tabled until the next meeting, as potential volunteers needed more information prior to committing.
3.3 Dream Hunt raffle tickets – tabled until next meeting – no information on how many we currently have left.
3.4 New treasurer – the general membership is asked to provide suggestions or volunteers for this position.
3.5 Range Rules sign – all necessary expenditures to complete the range have been approved so no motion is required. Rod Svenson will prepare content and format to send to printer.

– Several articles and position papers were presented, all expressing disappointment in the Federal Conservative’s lack of action, and in some cases a total reversal of position on gun registration and Posession and Aquisition licensing. Members are encouraged to take a very close look at the proposed Bill C-21, as it is virtually identical to the old Liberal Bill C-68, which is the basis for gun control legislation today. Members are urged to contact their MP (Monte Solberg) to express their opinions. Members are also encouraged to take an active interest in the Provincial Progressive Conservative reace, as there are some candidates who are prepared to protect the interests of hunters and fishermen.
4.9 Rifle Range Chair (Lloyd Cook)

4.10 Archery Chairs (Lester Janke)
– The archery range is now open for use, with the work about 80% complete. It is located east of the rifle range parking lot. Hopefully the range will be completed sometime in October 2006. The sea cans containing the 3-D targets and other equipment have been moved from the pheasant hatchery to the new archery range. Thanks to Rick Rowen and Rick Gagley from Joyline Trucking for all their help in getting this done. We would also like to thank Blueline Trucking for donating the gravel for the pathways on the archery range.

The rules for the archery range were presented as follows:
The care and respect shown by the users of this range will determine how the range is managed by the Brooks and District Fish and Game Association in the future. Remember – this is your range, look after it.
1. The Brooks Fish and Game Association is not responsible for any injuries, accidents or misuse incurred when using or visiting this archery range.
2. All members and guests are responsible for their actions or misuse of this range.
3. No vehicles or firearms allowed on the archery range.
4. No alcoholic beverages allowed.
5. No one is allowed downrange when others are shooting. All shooters must cease fire when others are retrieving arrows from the target area.
6. All 3-D targets and target butts are to be returned to the sea can when you are finished shooting.
7. Tree stand use:
– Brooks Fish and Game Association is not responsible for any misuse or injuries when using tree stand.
– Use caution when climbing ladder. Use a line to lift and lower equipment from the stand in order to keep both hands free to climb.
– A harness attached to an anchor point is to be used at all times when in tree stand.
– Only one person at a time in the tree stand.
8. Keep this area clean – place all used targets and garbage in the can provided.
9. Any Association Member can demand proof of membership. If you cannot present a valid membership card you will be asked to leave the premises.
10. An honor system sign-in book will be in place, and must be used for every visit to the range. This is for your benefit if there is any questions regarding damage or misuse.
11. Any member not following these rules will have their names entered into the minutes of the next executive or regular meeting. Repeat offenders will have their memberships permanently revoked.
